Rangefinding Card Instructions

🦉 Tactikowl Gear Rangefinding Card

🔧 Assembly Instructions

1. Cordage Selection & Attachment

  • Select a segment of paracord or preferred cordage material.
  • Punch a hole in the designated circle at the bottom of the card for your size of cord. Paracord will fit with a standard hole puncher hole.
  • Thread one end through the cut hole on the card.
  • Secure with a firm overhand or figure-eight knot on the reverse side of the card to prevent slippage.

2. Distance Calibration

  • Measure exactly 0.5 meters (19.7 inches) from the edge of the card along the cord.
  • Tie a second knot, leaving the 0.5 meters (19.7 inches) of cord between the card and the second knot.

3. Cord Termination

Trim any excess cord beyond the second knot.

Carefully melt the cut end using a lighter or heat source to prevent fraying.

🎯 Operational Instructions

1. Deployment

  • Grip the card in your dominant hand.
  • Bite the cord near the second knot (at the 0.5m mark) and cinch the knot up to your teeth.
  • Extend your arm fully until the cord is taut and the card is held at a consistent distance from your eye.

2. Target Alignment

  • Identify the object you wish to range.
  • Align the base or top of the object with the corresponding slope curve on the card.
  • Example: For a standard stop sign, align its height with the red curve labeled for that object class.

3. Distance Estimation

  • Each slope curve is calibrated in 100-meter increments.
  • The point at which the object intersects the curve indicates its approximate distance from the viewer.
